Belle Plaine Historical and Genealogical Society and Museum

In July 1998, The Belle Plaine Historical/Genealogical Society was established with a membership of five people, no money, and two objectives: establish a museum and preserve old photographs. Over the years, the Historical Society has sponsored educational opportunities for school groups; shared information with local organizations; helped fund other historically minded groups.

With the help of supporters, the Historical Society has succeeded in accomplishing our two primary objectives and has plans for so much more.

City of Belle Plaine

Belle Plaine was founded in 1871 and incorporated in 1884. Situated in a valley between the Arkansas and Ninnescah Rivers, Belle Plaine is just 20 miles south of Wichita. The valley has a strong agricultural base with a wide variety of crops including wheat.

Approximately 1500 people reside in Belle Plaine with a majority of the population working in the aircraft industry. Belle Plaine is a wonderful place to raise a family because of the great schools and convenient hometown shopping.

JP Weigand - Sunni Goentzel

Sunni saw a need in the real estate market and became a licensed agent and in 2013 she joined her mother—Cathy Sheets—in her real estate business. Giving back to the community and taking care of the world around her are important missions in Sunni's life work. The Belle Plaine office opened in 1995 and has full-time real estate agents serving a 100-mile radius. Besides real estate, they can offer auction services as well and are located just minutes south of Wichita. Many of our agents are licensed in Oklahoma as well as Kansas. The agents in this office are proud of their community involvement.

Julie Gooch entered real estate in the spring of 1996 and obtained her broker’s license in 2005, becoming the Associate Broker. Julie’s approach of providing quality, personal attention is one of her great strengths in her real estate career.

Valley Ridge Elder Care

Valley Ridge Elder Care is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is developing an elder care facility for the Belle Plaine community. A comfortable, clean, caring environment right here in our community, close to family, community, church, and friends, just a different place to call home in Belle Plaine. Phase I will be building two buildings to provide 14 Skilled Nursing and 12 Assisted Living Care rooms.

Our Board Members are Doug Hisken, Teresa Heater, Susan Rothgeb, Julie Gooch, and Leisa Warner.

The Valley State Bank

The Valley State Bank is a community bank that has operated under the same name since it was founded in 1897. Since its establishment, the financial institution has grown and opened branch locations in Derby, KS, and Wichita, KS.
